Zanotta
Mezzadro Stool
Price € 909,00
Among the most famous and recognizable pieces in the history of Italian design, Zanotta's Mezzadro stool embodies the playful aesthetics of the ready-made that characterized the design practices of its authors, the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Its bright red seat, in fact, takes up a classic tractor saddle, resting on a sprung chromed steel support that makes the seat surprisingly comfortable. The stabilizing pin of the base is instead a beech wood crosspiece, taken from a characteristic element of sailing boats. Presented for the first time as a prototype at the 1954 Triennale and then re-proposed by the Castiglioni in the famous 1957 Villa Olmo exhibition, it was mass-produced by Zanotta starting in 1971.

Design and culture: from these two inspirations, Zanotta draws its identity. Browsing the Zanotta catalog is like entering a real design museum full of the key works of some of the biggest protagonists of the furnishings field. Founded in Nova Milanese by Aurelio Zanotta in the ‘50s, the company inextricably links its name to the avant-garde design season, from which innovative furnishings are born, often enriched by an ironic touch. To these timeless masterpieces, Zanotta flanks reissues of classics from the first half of the twentieth century and a contemporary collection inspired by great lightness and quality.Read more
Designed by
Achille Castiglioni
Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) was one of the most important and celebrated masters of Italian design of the twentieth century. With a playful and curious temperament, he has also brought these characteristics into his creations, always full of brilliant intuitions resulting from a strong ability to observe the behavior of people and their relationship with objects. Son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni, he worked for the entire first part of his career alongside his brother Pier Giacomo (1913-1968), with whom he co-signed all his creations until the latter's death in 1968. Among his associations more fortunate were those with Flos, a company with which he collaborated since the foundation and with which he revolutionized the concept of domestic lighting, with Zanotta, who supported him in his most daring experiments, with De Padova, with whom he carried out many projects in recent years. of his life, and with Alessi. He has won the Compasso d'Oro eight times.Read more
