Icon of the Space Age style, the VP Globe suspension lamp by Verpan is one of Verner Panton's most famous creations. VP Globe, designed in 1969, seems to have come out of a science fiction film of the time: it consists of a transparent acrylic sphere which encloses a series of concave discs and reflectors in shiny aluminum, softened by a few touches of red and blue and kept suspended by three small chains. Symmetrical, balanced and with a strong scenographic impact, VP Globe made its debut in the Visiona 2 exhibition set up by Panton at the Cologne Fair and can be used in many different environments, both alone and by combining different pieces.

Designed by
Verner Panton
Verner Panton (1926-1998) has long been considered the enfant terrible of Danish design. His creations, visionary and colorful, have made the most of the characteristics of new materials such as plastic and polyurethane and have led the world of Scandinavian design into the future. Panton contributed more than any other designer to the constitution of Space Age design between the 1960s and 1970s. His creations, with bright colors and visionary shapes, are so iconic that they are still very current today. After starting his career as Arne Jacobsen's assistant, Panton toured Europe in his Volkswagen Transporter van and then settled in Basel. There began a long and fruitful collaboration with Vitra which resulted in several undisputed masterpieces such as the immortal Panton Chair, the first plastic chair in history made in a single piece. He also worked extensively with Louis Poulsen, the most important Danish brand in the lighting sector, and his creations also appear in the catalogs of brands such as & Tradition and Georg Jensen. His avant-garde installations were also famous, such as the surprising Visiona 2 created for Bayer at the Cologne Motor Show, or his as many futuristic interior projects, such as the headquarters of the newspaper Der Spiegel in Hamburg. After his death, the Verpan brand was founded in Denmark, dedicated to the reissues of some of his most famous creations.Read more
