The Little Petra armchair by &Tradition has always been a great classic of Danish design, an emblem of the peculiar Scandinavian approach to functionalism, the so-called “funkis style” recently made a comeback all over the world. Originally designed by the architect Viggo Boesen in 1938, the Little Petra armchair was immediately awarded at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen, later becoming a great international success. With its minute and delicate shapes and the strongly naturalistic appearance Little Petra has immediately become an iconic and immediately recognizable product, embodying the style and philosophy of &Tradition, a brand capable of recovering the forms of the past of Scandinavian design, bringing them back to being vivid and current.

Designed by
Viggo Boesen
Viggo Boesen (1907-1985) was a Danish architect and designer active mainly between the 30s and 40s whose works are the subject of a recent rediscovery and revaluation. It was an expression of the current of Functionalism, and more in detail of the Scandinavian “Funkis”, its peculiar Nordic interpretation that rejected its excesses of rigidity. In contrast to the cold steel aesthetic that dominated Modernism in Europe, Boesen preferred warm, soft materials and organic shapes, as in the famous Little Petra armchair (now reissued by &Tradition) which is considered his masterpiece. Another material that he loved very much was the woven wicker that can be found in the Fox armchair with which he won an award in 1936 organized by the Danish Wicker-Maker Guild and which is currently being re-proposed by the Sika Design brand.Read more
