Riva 1920
Clessidra Stool
Riva 1920 was born as a company specialized in creating wooden furniture, ideal for those who love a different and highly distinctive style, capable of exploiting the naturalness of wood to create unique objects destined to last over time. Clessidra is a highly versatile element, which is well suited to different environments and contexts thanks to its shape and to the small dimensions that allow it to be placed in any context. Clessidra is made of solid scented cedar wood and worked from a single block, which is characterized by two hemispheres placed one above the other to form a real hourglass.

The company was founded in 1920 in the heart of the "Brianza del Mobile" in a small shop specialized in the production of solid wood furnitures. During the next fifty years, the classic style of Riva1920 craftsmanship combined with the extreme enhancement of living wood has become hallmarks of the brand, internationally known today as the top range representative in woodworking.
In 1990, Riva1920 marries the culture of reforestation by starting the production of solid cherry wood furniture which will be followed by other reused woods such as the millenary Kauri from New Zealand, the Briccole from the Venice Lagoon and the Cedar from Lebanon.
Today Riva1920 stands out in the field of handcrafted furniture production for its ability to create unique models and completely customizable in each detail.Read more
Designed by
Mario Botta
Mario Botta (1943-) is one of the most important personalities of contemporary Swiss architecture. Born in Mendrisio, he completed his architectural studies at the IUAV in Venice under the guidance of Carlo Scarpa and developed the first projects in Canton Ticino starting from the 1970s, dedicating himself above all to private homes and developing the theme of the "home-refuge ”, Through which he perfects the key themes of his unmistakable style: the external wall covering in red brick or stone, the study of pure volumes crossed by large cracks, the careful modeling of the light effects on the surfaces. Sacred architectures, such as the cathedral of Evry near Paris or the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli on Monte Tamaro, have a particular importance in his work, creations intrinsically pervaded by ascetic spirituality. Among the important orders of public importance are the renovation and expansion of the Scala in Milan, the Casino di Campione di Italia and the Mart Museum in Rovereto. His forays into the world of design are rare and precious, all crowned with great success, through special collaborations with brands such as Alias, Artemide, Riva 1920, Casamania and Alessi.Read more
