The company grew out from the intuition of Renzo Frau who, moving in Torino, founded his workshop in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The Piedmont city was the ideal stage for the proposals of the young entrepreneur.
From the beginning, Poltrona Frau furnishings attract the attentions of the bourgeoisie and the Savoy Aristocracy, strongly fascinated by the international taste. The company’s collections embodied the timeless beauty of the Made in Italy design, despite a remarkable stylistic inflection in the Edoardian taste. Ludovica Serafini (1961-) and Roberto Palomba (1963-) are a couple of Italian architects and designers, founders of the Palomba Serafini Associati studio. Husband and wife, their products have won numerous prestigious international awards, including Elle Decoration International Design Award, Good Design Award, Red Dot Award and, above all, a Compasso d'Oro in 2011. The studio was founded in 1994 and it is based in Milan, the city where Roberto is also professor of Industrial Design at the most important university in the sector, the Politecnico. Their sober and charming products play a leading role in the offer of some of the most prestigious Italian design brands, such as Zanotta, Poltrona Frau and Foscarini.
