Dizzy, together with Billie, is part of a collection of carpets aimed at paying homage to the famous Swiss graphic artist Max Huber. The design shown here comes from the archive selection of his many unpublished works on paper. The original designs have remained unchanged in the proportions and thicknesses of the lines, simply adapted to the dimensions of the carpets that become canvas exactly like the paintings in a gallery. Dizzy refers to a design characterized by a series of cadenced lines, with a rhythm that symbolically recalls Dizzy Gillespie, one of the inventors of bebop and modern jazz. Dizzy is made entirely by hand on wooden looms with a Persian knot tying technique that provides a long-haired coat.

Poltrona Frau brings in any kind of environment, from home to office, its characteristic taste for leather-covered furnishings. The company grew out from the intuition of Renzo Frau who, moving in Torino, founded his workshop in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The Piedmont city was the ideal stage for the proposals of the young entrepreneur.
From the beginning, Poltrona Frau furnishings attract the attentions of the bourgeoisie and the Savoy Aristocracy, strongly fascinated by the international taste. The company’s collections embodied the timeless beauty of the Made in Italy design, despite a remarkable stylistic inflection in the Edoardian taste. In those years came to life iconic products such as the historic model 904, better known as Vanity Fair, the Chester armchair, which recalls the Chesterfield style, and the model 1919.Read more

Max Huber
Max Huber (1919-1992) was an important Swiss graphic designer, active mainly in Italy. During his youth in his homeland he studied at the prestigious Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich and came into contact with some exponents of the renowned Swiss Graphic School, including Max Bill, who greatly influenced his work. A great lover of jazz music, he managed to bring this inspiration to his work too: his graphics were characterized by the dynamism of the compositions and by the skilful use of overlapping and photomontages artifices. His arrival in Italy dates back to 1940, when he began to collaborate as an advertising graphic designer with Studio Boggeri, an activity that he will continue as a freelancer in the post-war period, taking care, for example, of the graphics of the Einaudi editions or the new logo of La Rinascente, still in use today. He also collaborated closely with the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, dealing with the graphic aspects of their large productions for companies such as RAI, ENI or Montecatini. In the artistic field he was instead one of the founders of the MAC, Movimento Arte Concreta, together with Gillo Dorfles and Bruno Munari. He was awarded a Compasso d'Oro in 1954. He Never dealt with actual product design, but some Poltrona Frau carpets based on his unpublished graphics are available
