Moroso
Shadowy Outdoor Armchair
Price € 1.940,00
The colorful Shadowy outdoor armchair, signed by Dutch designer Tord Boontje, is one of the flagships of Moroso's M’Afrique collection. It is entirely hand-woven by Senegalese artisans using colored polyethylene threads, a material often used in Africa for making colorful fishing nets. Charming and highly decorative, the Shadowy armchair is perfectly waterproof and its high backrest culminates in a daring curl that also takes on the function of a parasol. Shadowy also constitutes an interesting mix of distant cultural references: in addition to the clear African suggestions, also recognizable in the characteristic decorative patterns of its weaving, its shapes also draw inspiration from those of the armchairs and sun loungers used in the 1920s on the beaches of Northern Europe.

Design has always been the guiding star of Moroso, even in its most courageous and avant-garde variations. This is why, under the farsighted artistic direction of Patrizia Moroso, the company was able to establish strong relationships with visionary designers from all over the world by finding them the ideal environment to create their most daring creations. This was possible also thanks to the strong roots in the artisan tradition of a land like Friuli Venezia Giulia, with its strong ethic work and its meticulous attention to quality.Read more

Tord Boontje
Tord Boontje (1968-) is a Dutch designer active in London. A versatile designer but always very attentive to the emotional aspect of his creations, he is known for knowing how to infuse the products he designs with a lively and cheerful touch capable of easily capturing attention. In his opinion, the final task of design is not only to create effective and functional products, but also and above all to tell a story that he knows how to intrigue. Graduated in 1991 from the Design Academy of Eindhoven, he later moved to Milan to collaborate with the Alchimia studio and then to London to perfect his studies at the Royal College of Art. He then opened his own studio in 1996, establishing himself in the following decade as one of the most interesting voices in the panorama of British design: in particular the award for best designer of the year awarded by Elle Decor magazine in 2003 and the one for Dutch Designer of the Year won in 2005 are worth mentioning. In the same year he transferred the his activity in France in Bourg-Argental, before returning to London in 2009 to lead the Product Design department at the Royal College of Art. Many of his most relevant professional collaborations take place with Italian brands, first of all the Moroso brand who helped launch his career and who also had him design special displays for their Milanese showroom on the occasion of the Fuorisalone. Tord Boontje has also designed lamps for Foscarini, handles for Formani, surface coverings for Bisazza and Ceramiche Bardelli and much more.
