A real "floral armchair", Hortensia Armchair by Moooi is a surprising and spectacular piece of furniture, in the full style of the brand. Its entire surface is studded with over 30,000 small laser-cut fabric petals that make the seat soft and welcoming. What is peculiar is not only the final appearance of Hortensia, but also its history: its designers, Andrés Reisinger and Júlia Esqué, initially conceived it in 2018 as a simple 3D render without initially thinking of sending it into production. The design, however, went viral on social networks, thus convincing its authors to try the road of mass production and leading them to collaborate with Moooi after numerous attempts in which other potential producers had failed in trying to transpose such a visionary project into reality.

Young and fresh, Moooi is the most sparkling pearl in the dutch design world. The heart of the brand is Marcel Wanders, its founder and artistic director, who has brought together promising talents from all the Netherlands (and others), leaving them free to give full vent to their imagination. Surreal and postmodern, the atmospheres designed by Moooi push themselves towards forms never seen or imagined, or play to recuperate traditional themes and styles, reversing the yield with an ironic touch.Read more
Designed by
Andrés Reisinger
Andrés Reisinger (1990-) is considered a pioneer in exploring the convergence of design and digital art. Born in Argentina and living in Barcelona, Reisinger was one of the first designers capable of launching his career entirely through social networks. His creations initially originate as pure digital images, often sold as NFTs, and only later find their real counterpart through the physical realization of the product. This was the creative process followed first by his Hortensia armchair, an almost dreamlike project made entirely of rose petals and which in 2020 became so viral and discussed on the web that it attracted the attention of an established brand like the Dutch Moooi, which accepted the challenge of transforming the image into a real armchair to be mass-produced. Other of his furnishings, such as those presented by the Nilufar gallery, take the form of unique pieces. The development from digital to real is also the characteristic of his even more ambitious project “Take Over”, in which the designer created and circulated online a series of photo-realistic digital images of some buildings located in the main world capitals covered with a surreal effect by large pink sheets, a sort of colorful reinterpretation of Christo’s famous “mind wrappers”.
