Designed by
Herzog & de Meuron
Herzog & de Meuron studio was founded in Basel in 1978 by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog (1950-) and Pierre de Meuron (1950-), who have pursued their careers in parallel since their studies at the ETH Zurich. Their architecture, today engaged in large-scale projects such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, does not forget the minimalist sign of the origins and the great attention they have always paid to the theme of the structural envelope of buildings and materials, often of “poor” derivation. They are also well known internationally for the stadiums they designed, considered among the most successful examples of contemporary architecture for sports use: from the Allianz Arena, home to Bayern Munich, to the National Stadium in Beijing, the hub of the 2008 Olympics. project is the Tate Modern gallery in London, obtained from an old power station. Product design does not fall within the scope of their activities, except for special collaborations with brands such as Artemide and Vitra (for which they also created the VitraHaus showroom in Weil am Rhein).Read more
