The Platner collection represents an elegant challenge to conventions, as well as a successful example of how metal, and in particular shaped metal rods, can give life to furnishing elements that are in no way inferior to other contemporary models. Warren Platner's art consists precisely in recreating precious furnishings as suitable for the living area as for other rooms in the house by associating the cold metal with an equally icy material such as transparent crystal. The resulting combination is very suggestive, so much so as to suggest a whole series of chairs, armchairs, tables and coffee tables. Available in numerous finishes, today the Platner coffee table can be freely purchased by customizing both the structure and the top in marble, wood and more finishes.

Landed in the United States at the beginning of the ‘30s, Hans Knoll, a young German-born son of a furniture-maker in Stuttgart, proposed to import into the new continent the modern European design, contemporary heritage of the Bauhaus. Died prematurely, his work was continued by his wife, Florence Knoll, who succeeded in establishing lasting partnerships with some of the greatest exponents of the modernist movement. Few years later the Knoll Associates was founded. Today, Knoll is not only a company of re-selling historic furnishings of great artistic value, but continues to innovate by offering creations of the major international design brands both in the home area and in the office furnitures sector.Read more
Designed by
Warren Platner
Warren Platner (1919-2006) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and worked for years in the studios of leading architects and designers. In the 1940s he was employed by Raymond Loewy and I.M. Pei, later becoming one of Eero Saarinen's closest collaborators. It owes much of its fame to a collection of tables and chairs designed for Knoll in the 1960s, the Platner Collection, a true technical prodigy that required over a decade of studies and prototypes before being put into production. He was also an appreciated interior designer: among his most famous projects we should mention the Georg Jensen Design Center in New York and the interiors of the Windows of the World restaurant, located on top of one of the two Twin Towers of the famous World Trade Center. In 1985 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the famous magazine "Interior Design".Read more
