Landed in the United States at the beginning of the ‘30s, Hans Knoll, a young German-born son of a furniture-maker in Stuttgart, proposed to import into the new continent the modern European design, contemporary heritage of the Bauhaus. Died prematurely, his work was continued by his wife, Florence Knoll, who succeeded in establishing lasting partnerships with some of the greatest exponents of the modernist movement. Few years later the Knoll Associates was founded. Today, Knoll is not only a company of re-selling historic furnishings of great artistic value, but continues to innovate by offering creations of the major international design brands both in the home area and in the office furnitures sector.Read more

Richard Schultz
Richard Schultz (1926-2021) is an American designer best known for his collaboration with Knoll. After studying at Iowa State University and the Illinois Institute of Technology, Sachultz joined the famous brand in 1951 and became Harry Bertoia's assistant in the creation of his famous Bertoia Wire series, of which he later supervised the production for a few years. Instead, the Petal and Leisure Line collections (now renamed "1966") bear his signature, considered the first example of real modern furniture for outdoor spaces in the history of American design and still today leading lines in the Knoll the outdoor. Renowned for both aesthetics and durability, these creations are also worthy of their author entry into the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. In 1972 he left Knoll and founded his own company with his son Peter, Richard Schultz Designs, which was later bought in 2012 by Knoll herself.Read more
