Mercer Coffee Table
Price starting from € 5.966,00*
*Price valid for the version in black Marquina marble (cod. 701T MN).
A unique work of its kind, able to stand out in the furniture scene for the lucid simplicity of the forms. Born from the genius of Lucia Mercer in 1982, it immediately became part of the Knoll catalog, becoming one of its standout pieces in its own right. The choice of creating a coffee table with a single block of marble stands out if not for simplicity, certainly for the intrinsic beauty capable of generating a great emotional impression. The artist's sensitivity strikes and fascinates, succeeding in the difficult task of creating personality from something so simple. Suitable for the living environment, Mercer lends itself perfectly to more extreme locations in the home.

Landed in the United States at the beginning of the ‘30s, Hans Knoll, a young German-born son of a furniture-maker in Stuttgart, proposed to import into the new continent the modern European design, contemporary heritage of the Bauhaus. Died prematurely, his work was continued by his wife, Florence Knoll, who succeeded in establishing lasting partnerships with some of the greatest exponents of the modernist movement. Few years later the Knoll Associates was founded. Today, Knoll is not only a company of re-selling historic furnishings of great artistic value, but continues to innovate by offering creations of the major international design brands both in the home area and in the office furnitures sector.Read more
Designed by
Lucia Mercer
Lucia Mercer is a designer specializing in the use of stone and granite. After studying landscape architecture at Cornell University and after spending a short time in the Soviet Union, she returned to the USA in 1979 and began working for Cold Spring Granite Quarry, near Pittsburgh. Her best-known creations are slightly later: in 1982 she designed a collection of three plastically sculptural coffee tables for Knoll, with pure and balanced geometries. On the border between furnishings and small sculptures, these tables were almost entirely handmade by herself, cutting the slabs and drawing an ellipse on them and then removing the excess stone with a hammer and a cleaver.
