A leading company in the production of fully hand-woven carpets, Kasthall has been operating in the furnishing sector since the end of the nineteenth century. Uniqueness is the characteristic of Kasthall rugs: each rug is made on demand and the leather label on the back of each piece shows the names of the people who designed and built it. Another peculiarity that distinguishes the brand is certainly the environmental responsibility, which decisively influences the production methods and the future development of the company.Read more
Designed by
Jonas Bohlin
Jonas Bohlin (1953-) is one of Sweden's most controversial designers. Lover of provocations, his works mark a break with the traditional practice of "good Scandinavian design" and are proposed as lively intellectual reflections, introducing the typical themes of post-modernism also in Sweden. After starting his professional career as a civil engineer, he studied design at Konstafack in Stockholm and proposed as a graduation project what would remain his most famous piece, the Concrete chair, made of iron and concrete. Presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 1981, this iron and concrete chair presents itself as the radical negation of the typical Scandinavian style, which at the time had fallen into a period of tired repetitions, and immediately aroused great contrasting reactions. It will later be produced in a limited edition by the Källemo brand, which will also edit many of Bohlin's subsequent brilliant provocations. Instead, his most ambitious project dates back to the 1990s, the artistic happening entitled LIV, in which he and about fifty friends set out to build a boat with which to sail from Stockholm to Paris along rivers and canals. During this adventure many of his most famous creations will take shape, edited through the Klong brand founded by Bohlin himself. In addition to his artistic productions in limited series, Jonas Bohlin has mainly worked with Swedish brands such as Asplund, Kasthall, Örsjö Belysning and Gemla.Read more
