Gebruder Thonet Vienna
All design history books begin with the same name: Thonet. In fact, thanks to the research made by the German cabinet maker Michael Thonet on the bending of wood, the industrial production of furniture began. In 1842, Thonet was invited by Chancellor Metternich himself to continue his activity in Vienna, and it was precisely in the capital of the Hapsburg Empire that he founded the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna (GTV) involving his five sons. Front
Front is an innovative Swedish design studio, all with a feminine twist. It was founded in 2004 by a group of four former students of the prestigious Konstfack University of Stockholm: Sofia Lagerkvist (1972-) and Anna Lindgren (1974-), still partners of the firm, who for many years were also joined by Charlotte van der Lancken (1978-) and Katja Sävström (1972-). They immediately get great international attention thanks to surprising and innovative design performances such as "Design by Animals", in which the final shape of the objects is decided by the interaction between an animal and a first prototype, or "Sketch Furniture", where a pioneering use of 3D printing allows them to give life to objects drawn in the moment by sketching their shapes in the air. Avant-garde verve and attention to the animal world are also found in collaborations with major brands such as Moooi, Porro, Tom Dixon, Vitra, Moroso, Axor, Driade, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna and many others.
