The Pinecone suspension lamp by Fontana Arte, luxurious and precious, has the signature of the designer Paola Navone and bases its refined charm on the traditional technique of caged blown glass. Its entirely artisanal creation requires the master glassmaker to blow the classic glass bubble with his mouth inside a metal cage, in whose intersections it ends up overflowing slightly in a harmonious way. The artifact thus created seems in constant tension, with the glass that seems to press to come out of the confinement in which it is enclosed. The effect has different shades depending on the finish: the transparent glass divides the light according to the design of the small rhombuses that make up the frame of the lamp, with a kaleidoscopic play of light with a strong scenographic impact, while the white glass gives life to a more compact lamp in which the light is diffused in a more balanced way.

One of the most influential representatives of the made in Italy lighting design, FontanaArte has its roots in the nineteenth century with the foundation of a glass factory in Milan by the entrepreneur Luigi Fontana. The real brand was born from the meeting between the latter and Giò Ponti, the first artistic director, leaving an indelible mark on the style of the company, so much that his creations still play a central role in the FontanaArte catalog. Glass and crystal gave the brand an immediate international success since the early years, thanks also to the collaboration with the master glassmaker Pietro Chiesa.Read more
Designed by
Paola Navone
Paola Navone (1950-) was trained in the effervescent world of experimental design of the 1970s, training in the Alchimia Studio and collaborating with some of its greatest exponents, including Alessandro Mendini and Ettore Sottsass. From these experiences you have drawn an approach to design devoid of dogma and alien to the dictatorship of formalism, to which you later added your strong passion for ethnic influences drawn from all over the world. In this way, she created her peculiar design without borders, with influences ranging from the Provencal shabby to the African artisan traditions, in an original and highly personal mix expressed in her first experiences with Abet Laminati and with the artistic direction of the Cappellini World line. Among her more successful collaborations are those with Gervasoni, of which she has been artistic director since 1998, and with Baxter, in which she declines her characteristic style in a more precious guise. Among the many brands you have worked with, we remember Casamilano, Driade, Ethimo, FontanaArte, Riva1920 and Molteni & C.Read more
