Borek Sipek
Borek Sipek (1949-2016) was for many years one of the most renowned designers in the Czech Republic. After graduating from the Prague School of Applied Arts, he dedicated the 1970s to the study and teaching of design at various universities of the Germany, and then moved to Amsterdam in the following decade and founded his own studio there. His style, post-modern and almost baroque, gives life to unusual creations with bizarre shapes that clearly bear the mark of his eclectic personality. The material with which he gave his best was glass, revitalizing the great tradition of Bohemian crystal in the light of its peculiar aesthetics and giving life for Driade to its famous "Folies" collection, in which glass takes on an almost punk enriched with studs, pins and colored decorations. In 1994 he founded his own glass factory in the Czech Republic, Ajeto, with which he was supplier of, among others, the Dubai metro and the Kyoto Opera Tetaro. Sipek was also the official architect of Prague Castle during the presidency of the intellectual Valclav Havel in the 90s, imaginatively enriching the glass decorations of the building. He has also worked for lighting and furniture brands such as Lasvit and Sawaya & Moroni.Read more
