Catellani&Smith rediscovers the colors and taste of extroverted furnishings with the Ale Big line of table lamps, a hymn to three-dimensionality and above all to strong, decisive, all-encompassing colours. In this interesting luminous furnishing element, the blues, reds and yellows shine vividly but also the numerous fluorescent shades of pink, orange and much more, an alternation of colors that deliberately want to capture the eye, pushing it to admire a design that does not fear conventions and limitations. Ale Big is made up of a support body to which two large arms join to house the imposing hemisphere diffuser from which a soft and modulated light propagates. The hemisphere becomes a distinctive element of this lamp which in turn is available in numerous models characterized by the ironic detail of a fly resting on the cap.

Neither architecture nor art: the formation of Enzo Catellani, the only and brilliant mind behind the Catellani & Smith brand, goes beyond the traditional canons of lighting design, remaining faithful to its personal inspiration. Here, simple materials, worked in the companys' workshop of Bergamo countryside, intersect with light in a play of golden and silver reflections.Read more
Designed by
Enzo Catellani
Enzo Catellani (1950-) has rightly been defined by many important critics as "the poet of light". Self-taught, his activity as a designer and artist was born almost by chance: in fact, he ran a lamp shop in Bergamo when, driven by curiosity and creativity, he decides to try to make his own creations. His first lamp - the Torciù model, still in production today - was thus born, in the basement of the store, was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show and immediately achieved enormous success. It was 1989, the year of the beginning of a great adventure: it was then that Enzo founded his Catellani & Smith company, through which he produces new collections of lamps every year. He is an eclectic designer, devoid of external influences other than those of the imagination, who works without projects on paper but lets himself be carried away by intuitions and experiments on prototypes. Precisely for this reason his projects, now children of an almost Dadaist game, now wrapped in the shimmering reflections of a luxurious gold leaf, are always enriched with a unique and inimitable touch.Read more
