The Wink armchair is one of the most famous products by Cassina. Designed by Toshiyuki Kita in 1980, it has been included in the collection “I Contemporanei” as it is expression of originality, experimentation and desire to dare. The combination between ergonomics and flexibility creates the shape of Wink, able to turn itself from an armchair into a chaise longue thanks to its structure equipped with a flap base. In its designer’s words “Sitting on Wink means sitting on the floor and, when you are seated there, according to oriental tradition, your spirit rises”. The contemporary proportions, whose multifunctional core has an ironic touch, are fully customizable, giving to the customer the chance of choosing among fabric and leather covers. The position of the backrest, including a headrest with reclining sections, is completely adjustable thanks to lateral knobs.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more

Toshiyuki Kita
Toshiyuki Kita (1969-) is a Japanese designer, active for a long time also in Italy and Europe. With his two studios, one in Osaka and one in Milan, he has long represented a bridge between two worlds, combining a great attention to the Japanese artistic tradition with the most fashionable trends in international design. His projects, with soft and welcoming curves and bright colors, perfectly represent a very popular style between the 80s and 90s, well represented by his famous Wink armchair. In the 1970s he collaborated with important Italian architects such as Giotto Stoppino and Mario Bellini before setting up his own business, working with companies such as Cassina, Moroso, Oluce, Magis and Wittmann. His creations are exhibited in some of the most important design museums in the world, such as the MoMA in New York and the Center Pompidou in Paris. In 2011 he was awarded the Compasso d'Oro for his career.Read more
