When form and function intertwine, creating a whole of inimitable beauty. Among the many admirable works by Charlotte Perriand, the Tokyo Chaise Longue stands out for the care of the shapes applied to a futuristic design that continues to amaze today at the dawn of its creation in 1940. The study of Tokyo begins during the designer's stay in the city of the same name, inspiration for the sinuous and welcoming shapes. The material chosen for the structure, bamboo, is a further and clear tribute. This evocative reinterpretation of the LC4 chaise longue has subsequently had several re-editions in teak and other finishes which, however, have never altered the original shapes consisting of 12 curved slats received in turn in a cradle of the same material and joints in satin brass.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more

Charlotte Perriand
Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) was one of the most important female figures in the history of twentieth-century architecture and design. She owes the beginnings of her career to Le Corbusier, tutelary deity of the Modern Movement, in whose studio she entered shortly after the end of her studies and with whom she collaborated for ten years, from 1927 to 1937. The two signed some of the most famous furnishings of Modernism, in which they gave full artistic dignity to a material such as tubular steel. She is a strong and independent personality, she gradually began to feel the need for a greater possibility of individual expression, and she began to work on her own, or in collaboration with the equally famous Jean Prouvé. She was very fond of travel and did not set boundaries: she had the opportunity to visit the Soviet Union and Japan, where she spent the entire period of the Second World War. In the postwar period she worked more and more often on her own, softening her lines more and more and moving away from the influence of Modernism. Among her most famous projects, the interior of the United Nations Building in Geneva and the ski resort of Méribel. Her furnishings are all reissued by Cassina.Read more
