Soft and generous lines are the main features that make Soriana a highly suggestive element within any living space, regardless of the style used. Soriana was born under the aegis of informal and refined comfort, capable of involving the most demanding tastes also thanks to the use of unexpected colors and materials. Soriana was born in 1969 thanks to Afra and Tobia Scarpa and over the years it has become a cornerstone of design not only for Cassina, but for admirers of the genre. Thanks to the new molding techniques of the polyurethane foam it does not require an internal support but takes shape from the grip of the metal structure that houses it. Its aesthetic balance allows it to win the Compasso d'Oro award in 1970 as a masterpiece of our contemporaneity.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more
Designed by
Afra Scarpa
Afra Bianchin Scarpa (1937-2011) was the life and work partner of Tobia Scarpa, of whom she has co-signed many of his most important projects. The couple met while studying architecture at the IUAV in Venice, where they both attended the lessons of the famous Franco Albini. Tobia was the son of another great architect, Carlo Scarpa, and soon managed to obtain important design commissions for major brands, always involving his inseparable companion in the work. Although not all products signed by Tobia officially bear the signature of Afra, theirs must be considered an all-round partnership in which professional merits must be equally shared, following the model of the most famous couple that the history of design remembers: Charles & Ray Eames. They have been the protagonists of a great season of success in Italian design, working for top-tier brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina and Molteni & C., and have won several international awards including a Compasso d'Oro in 1970.Read more
