The Lady armchair is created in the 50s by Marco Zanuso. Thanks to its outstanding architectural modernity together with its stylistic innovation, this model has been recognized sooner as an iconic product of the modern design, being awarded by several prizes as the Gold Metal at the IX Milam Triennale in 1951. Besides becoming the first armchair padded in foam rubber and polyurethane foam, the model Lady was able to introduce a suspension system with reinforced elastic belts for a higher comfort level. This armchair has been given also the credit of transforming the traditional system for the production of padded elements, by having them manufactured separately and assembled only later. A wide range of fabric and leather covers gives this one-of-a-kind product the chance to enhance its timeless beauty and comfort.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more
Designed by
Marco Zanuso
Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) was one of the driving forces of great Italian design, forcefully imposed on the attention of the whole world in the years of the second post-war period. Particularly attentive to the technical and production aspects, together with Pirelli and its subsidiary Arflex he was the protagonist of the creation of a material that would forever change the way of understanding upholstery: foam rubber. Some of his most famous projects of those years are now re-edited by Cassina, such as the immortal Lady armchair, gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1951. His passion for technology has led him to leave an indelible mark also in the design of electronic objects, such as the iconic radios and televisions made for Brionvega, often in collaboration with Richard Sapper, testify. He has had the opportunity to compete with all kinds of products, from refrigerators to sewing machines, from telephones to car bodies, obviously without forgetting furniture and lighting in his collaborations with Zanotta, Gavina, Oluce and Kartell.Read more
