Over the architecture and the design, La Basilica table was born to demonstrate that both large and small works have more in common what the eye and human reason can explain. Related to a series of tables among which La Corte, Il Colonnato, La Loggia and so on stand out, La Basilica of 1878 has a solid and well-conceived structure that maintains the perspective clarity of the architecture and the elementary refinement embodied by the legs similar to pillars and the top devoid of embellishments. Mario Bellini's project was born on the occasion of the “Libro dell’Arredamento”, and since then it has been repeated several times in a vast assortment of variants and finishes suitable for following the taste of their time.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more

Mario Bellini
Mario Bellini (1935-) has always remained strongly linked to his training as an architect, managing to bring his characteristic principles into all the very different areas in which he had the opportunity to design. After starting his career as design director at the Rinascente, in 1963 he was called to Olivetti where he became the protagonist of an extraordinary season of technological innovations. In addition to numerous computers and electronic equipment, he also has the opportunity to design the first personal computer in history, the Olivetti P101. Since 1978 he has also had the opportunity to work in the automotive sector, becoming a consultant for Renault. In the field of furniture, too, he holds leading roles, signing some of the most relevant products of the 1970s and subsequent decades for Cassina and B&B Italia. He was director of Domus magazine, president of ADI and eight times winner of the Compasso d'Oro. He has also worked with companies such as Yamaha, Heller, Nemo and Rosenthal. Since the 1980s he has mainly devoted himself to architecture, with projects such as the Natuzzi headquarters in North Carolina, the interiors of the Deutsche Bank headquarters in Frankfurt, the Tokyo Design Center and the Milan Congress Center in the Portello district.Read more
