The Antropus armchair by Marco Zanuso was created in 1949 for the scenery of Thornton Wilde’s play “The skin of our teeth”. On that occasion, Zanuso gave voice to his creativity, realizing pieces with innovative techniques and materials; he started collaborating with Arflex to produce an armchair totally padded with foam rubber, a composite whose use was admitted at that time for the domestic furniture due to its expressive, ergonomic and industrial potentialities. The main feature of the actual version realized by Cassina is the utilization of the polyurethane foam CFC free which allows to shape larger and more comfortable seats and backrests, delimited by the clear and curvy profile of the lateral panels. The new proposal by Cassina includes the iconic original version in red fabric as well as many other fabrics and colours which are available to customize your choice.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more

Marco Zanuso
Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) was one of the driving forces of great Italian design, forcefully imposed on the attention of the whole world in the years of the second post-war period. Particularly attentive to the technical and production aspects, together with Pirelli and its subsidiary Arflex he was the protagonist of the creation of a material that would forever change the way of understanding upholstery: foam rubber. Some of his most famous projects of those years are now re-edited by Cassina, such as the immortal Lady armchair, gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1951. His passion for technology has led him to leave an indelible mark also in the design of electronic objects, such as the iconic radios and televisions made for Brionvega, often in collaboration with Richard Sapper, testify. He has had the opportunity to compete with all kinds of products, from refrigerators to sewing machines, from telephones to car bodies, obviously without forgetting furniture and lighting in his collaborations with Zanotta, Gavina, Oluce and Kartell.Read more
