The PK52 Professor Desk by Carl Hansen & Søn is designed by Poul Kjaerholm, the great modernizer of Danish design, who initially conceived it for the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Modern and minimalist, almost aseptic, the structure of this table skilfully combines the steel of the legs and the wood of the top, slightly raised above its support crosspieces to give it a lighter and more flexible appearance. The top has also been conceived as reversible, allowing one side to be used for study and work and to be turned over should it be used as a meal plan. A small optional chest of drawers can be added to the desk. PK52 is also available in the smaller PK52A Student Desk version.
Version Professor Desk W.186,5 x D.85 x H.72 cm
Available also in Version Student Desk in W.141,5 x D.85 x H.72 cm

Carl Hansen & Søn was founded in 1908 on the Danish island of Funen, under the aegis of the eponymous cabinetmaker Carl Hansen. Since its foundation, the small cabinetmaking workshop has experienced rapid success due to the high quality craftsmanship of its furniture as well as the foresight of its founder, responsible for the establishment of many fruitful collaborations with world-renowned designers. The growth of Carl Hansen & Son was deeply influenced by the long-term collaboration with one of the greatest designers of all time: Hans J. Wegner. This creative synergy began in 1949, when Holger Hansen, son of Carl Hansen, attempted the fate with the unknown designer. From that moment,Wegner designed a series of successful furniture, including the now iconic Wishbone Chair.Read more

Poul Kjaerholm
Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) was one of the most prominent names in the history of Danish design. His style, which he strictly adhered to throughout his career, envisaged blending the inspiration of the great masters of Modernism of the 1930s such as Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe with the delicate craftsmanship typical of design. He was among the first Danish designers to extensively use tubular steel in the design of the base of his chairs and armchairs, often coupled with the choice of warm and natural materials such as leather or wicker for the seat. He studied as a cabinetmaker at the Copenhagen School of Applied Arts, where he was one of the favorite pupils of the great architect Jørn Utzon. During his lifetime he was always loyal to the company of his friend Ejvind Kold Christensen, who exclusively produced all of his furnishings. Among the most important awards he has won are two Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale (1957, 1960) and a Lunning Prize (1958). Shortly after his death, E. Kold Christensen was taken over by the greatest Fritz Hansen, who still has some of his most iconic products in Kjærholm's collections. Some of his creations have also been re-edited over the years by Carl Hansen & Søn and PP Møbler.Read more
