Cappellini's S-Chair is one of the most famous creations of the British designer Tom Dixon, protagonist of the permanent collections of the largest design museums in the world such as the MoMA in New York or the Milan Triennale. Its sinuous and organic shapes, vaguely feminine, are in fact a modern and immediately recognizable interpretation of the classic model of the cantilever seat, interpreted by Tom Dixon in a particularly thin and slender variation. The painted metal structure of the S-Chair can be upholstered in different fabrics and leathers from the Cappellini collection, but the woven straw finish deserves a mention, perhaps the best known and most iconic variant.

Giulio Cappellini, from the beginning the heart and mind of the namesake company, has gained over the years the well-deserved reputation of being one of the greatest talent scouts in the history of Italian design. His flair has brought to Italy a large number of young designers from all over the world, who have found in Cappellini the ideal environment to create bold and avant-garde projects, thus often starting careers from real design-star. The Cappellini philosophy of supporting the creativity of their designers, has given life to a rich and heterogeneous catalog, in which a multi-faceted “author” styls coexists. Over the years, this peculiarity has given Cappellini top marks and places in the most important museums of the world such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Center Pompidou in Paris.Read more

Tom Dixon
Tom Dixon (1959-) is one of the most famous and appreciated contemporary British designers. Born in Tunisia and moved to the UK at an early age, he did a variety of jobs in his youth, from nightclub promoter to bassist in a punk band. Passionate about motorcycles, he learned the techniques of welding in order to carry out the repairs himself, and from there he became interested in Ron Arad's design experiments with metal, which brought him closer to the London underground art and design circles. Like Arad, his first works centered around the use of metallic materials and were based on a post-industrial and recycled aesthetic. At the beginning of the 90s he was noticed by Giulio Cappellini, who gave him the opportunity to compete with series production and make himself known by the great international audience. Since 1998 he has been called to the management of Habitat, the largest English furniture chain, and promotes a radical renewal of the brand's image. Starting from 2002 he decided to go on his own to be able to convey his aesthetics without compromise, founding and leading to success a brand that bears his name - Tom Dixon Ltd. - mainly dedicated to the production of lamps and objects.Read more
