Alvar Aalto's 66 chair is one of the best-known examples of his L-Leg collection, produced since 1935 by Artek, in which the great Finnish architect and designer experimented with innovative uses of curved wood to create a series of seats for the era. Even today, almost a century later, the 66 chair retains its charm: light and with a fresh and natural look, it is perfect both for use in public spaces and for a classic Scandinavian-style kitchen. The wide opening of the back takes on the function of a handle and makes it very practical to move. In addition to the classic version in light birch wood, it is also available in a wide variety of colors and finishes that allow it to fit easily into different contexts.

A pearl of Finnish design, Artek brings together in its catalog many of the most important furnishings produced in this country. The name of Artek is inextricably linked to that of its founder, the legendary Alvar Aalto, who left an indelible mark on the brand's production and more generally on all Scandinavian design. His peculiar interpretation of modernism, close to the shapes and colors of nature, permeates all Artek collections and is also found in the works of designers who have given shape to the brand after him. The curved wood, often in light colors, replaces the cold tubular steel and creates harmonious and relaxing atmospheres, unmistakably Nordic.Read more
Designed by
Alvar Aalto
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is a true legend of Finnish architecture and design and can rightly be considered the founding father of the Scandinavian path to Modernism, richer in warmth and closer to nature than the original model. Where Le Corbusier and Marcel Breuer used a cold material such as tubular steel, Aalto introduces curved plywood, in whose use he was a pioneer and master. Another material much loved by him for its natural characteristics was glass, folded in bold and sinuous curves in his creations for Iittala. His most prolific period was the 1930s, to which many of his most famous architectural projects date back, such as the Viipuri library, the Paimio sanatorium or the famous Villa Mairea in Noormarkku. In 1935 he founded the Artek company together with his wife Aino Marsio, his long-time collaborator, and other partners. The brand was dedicated to the mass production of the furniture and lamps he conceived and will meet an incredible worldwide success, which lasts until today.Read more
