Designed by
Alberto Meda
Alberto Meda (1945-) is known worldwide as "the design engineer": unlike many of his colleagues, his training does not take place in the field of architecture, but in that of mechanical engineering, a discipline in which he is graduated from the Milan Polytechnic and specialized in working for Magneti Marelli. From this different heritage derives a rigorous and always attentive approach to the technological and functional aspects of the product, alien to fashion whims and formalisms. A serious and meticulous vision of design that over the years has earned him the victory of 6 Compassi d’Oro (1989, 1994, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2018). His approach to the sector began in 1973, when he was hired as production manager by Kartell, a role that allowed him to deal with various designers such as Franco Raggi and Denis Santachiara who encouraged him to personally try his hand at product design. It was in the 1980s that he began his career as a freelance designer, achieving particular success in the world of office seating, thanks to his collaborations with Alias and Vitra, and in that of lighting, where he has a close synergy with Luceplan ( his creations for this brand will almost all be co-signed with Paolo Rizzatto).Read more
