Novelties 2020 | B&B Italia | Camaleonda Sofa
After 50 years Camaleonda is back, the system designed by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia. Presented to the public in 1970, Camaleonda is an excellently successful example of a modular sofa capable of marking the aesthetic step of interior design of its time. Its stage presence combined with the supreme taste of design have allowed it to access by right to the major museums of international design as well as to the sets of films that have defined the collective imagination.
In short, an object loved by design enthusiasts, antiques dealers and interior decorators who today returns to the fore thanks to careful design work that has seen the CR&S of B&B Italia and Mario Bellini work side by side.
In its re-edition, Camaleonda retains the elements that have made it a classic of its time, keeping the 90×90 seat module as well as the back and armrest, faithful to the original design of which the templates for cutting the upholstery have also been recovered. Even the generous padding has not undergone changes, presenting the characteristic capitonné obtained thanks to the innovative system of cables, hooks and rings designed by Bellini in 1970. Thanks to this structure, the modules can be unhooked and recombined at will, allowing the sofa to adapt to the evolving taste and dynamic needs of those who use it. The almost infinite modularity of Camaleonda therefore remains intact, capable of transforming each element into a sort of gigantic pixel through which is possible to define one’s own home environment.
With this new formula, therefore, the B&B Italia sofa aims to re-read an unquestionable classic without changing its aesthetics, dimensions and proportions in any way. Only the soul changes, redesigned dispelling any nostalgia.
The combinatorial nature of Camaleonda continues and is completed with Gli Scacchi, a series of accessories designed by Mario Bellini to become coffee tables or extra seats. The three pieces that make up the series are inspired by the game of chess, in particular Regina, Cavallo and Torre, light and easy to move as on a chessboard. Playful furnishings, which offer the possibility of completing spaces and environments with extreme compositional freedom.
