Carlo Scarpa

Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978), one of the most important Venetian architect and designer of the twentieth century, studied at the Academy of Belle Arti in Venice and has always remained deeply attached to the world of art, so much so that he is one of his most famous works various exhibition and museum installations. Linked to art - glass art, of which Venice is the Italian capital - is also his first prestigious position in the world of design, the artistic direction of Venini, a role he held between 1933 and 1947 and through which he brought modernity the centennial tradition of Murano glass. He was a master of restoration (including that of the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice, which was completed when he was only thirty years old), his most famous architectural project dates back to the postwar period: the famous Olivetti shop in Piazza San Marco, a small jewel of harmony and proportions. It was in those years that he met Dino Gavina, a visionary entrepreneur, for whose brand Simon (now part of the Cassina catalog) will create all his most famous furnishings.
