Bjorn Dahlstrom
Björn Dahlström (1957-) is a celebrated Swedish designer. His style is distinguished by a delicate and apparently naive grace and by the use of archetypal forms: his products almost seem to have come out of a child's drawings, with their soft and unfussy lines. This is a characteristic derived from the long years spent working in the field of graphic design and animation, a long apprenticeship that led him to measure himself against product design only from the early 1990s, starting with toy projects. His first great successes were represented by the series of seats designed for the Swedish company CBI and marketed by the David Design brand and the cookware set designed for Hackman (now re-released by Iittala), which immediately became a best-seller. A very versatile designer, he has not limited his scope of intervention to furniture and the home: one of his most famous creations remains the pneumatic hammer Cobra MK1 for Atlas, a project to which he dedicated four years of study. Winner of the “Excellent Swedish Design Award” sixteen times, Dahlström has worked over the years with both Scandinavian brands such as Kasthall and String Furniture and Italian brands such as Plank and Magis.
