LC4

Cassina
Designer: Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand

LC4, drawn in 1928 by the famous Swiss architect Le Corbusier in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, became over the time the Chaise Longue par excellence. Inspired to the Victorian Morris Chair of Philip Webb, its shape was twisted to adapt to basics of Movimento Moderno, whose author was one of promoters. Following the Golden rule, according to this the shape of the furniture has to depend on its functions, LC4 is planned without arms and with a back seat with sinuous shapes, perfect to adapt with the maximum comfort to the curves of your back.

A real " Machine for Relax", according to the functionalist conception of Le Corbusier, surprisingly captivating and sensual also as for aesthetic. It was also revolutionary as for the choice of materials: only the pioneering use of the curved metal could guarantee the necessary flexibility for a similar project. Presented at the "Salon d'Automne des Artistes Décorateurs" with the name of "Chaise Longue à réglage continu" and firstly produced by Thonet and by the Swiss Embru, it has got into the Cassina catalog since 1965 and thanks to the large-scale production, it could be appreciated by a wider public.

Technical descriptions: the base is in black mat steel. The structure is made up of a steel tube, available both in chromed version and mat black version. The mattress with polyurethane foam upholstery, is available with 3 different covers: leather, leather with fur and self-supporting fabric ecru. The oval headrest, upholstered in polyester wadding, has also a covering in leather, whose colours depend on the ones chosen for the mattress. The tilting movement of chaise longue is regulated by the positions of the body of whoever sits.

It is also available in the version "Villa Church", more faithful to the first project designed by Le Corbusier for the interior of Pavillon Villa Church. This is a reconstruction of extreme philological rigor and it differs from the base model for some details: the structure is bicolour, the steel tube has a drop shape and it is varnished in light blue, the mattress is in leather with grey pony skin fur and the headrest is in grey leather. contact us
